How do babies KNOW this stuff?

Today Jeffrey (22 months) was pointing towards the wall and saying "Jesus! Jesus! Amen. Amen." and folding his little hands together. I finally realized he was pointing to the corner of the mantel where I have a statue somewhat similar to the one above (I couldn't find an exact picture, I think mine's a collectible and not sold anymore). But like in the one above, there is nothing really "special" denoting that it's Jesus and the Blessed Virgin Mary.

I don't think I've ever pointed out that statue to him, or told him who it was, nor do I remember doing that with any similar statues. (I know, I know, it's time I start!) Yet, I guess I don't have to worry, because *he knows*. He told *me* that the Little Baby in His mother's arms was Jesus.

I remember Leah (now 4) doing similar things at this age, saying an ornate picture of a certain saint was "God," when I had never introduced her to such a concept. They just seem to have an innate sense of the sacred. If only I had half as much...
