Not so fast, little fella...

Jeffrey stood on the kneeler, at the end of the pew in church today, watching a few of his big sisters and a hundred other children file past on their way to Children's Liturgy of the Word.  I caught him inching slowly closer to the group, in a futile attempt to get away and go with them.   I leaned down and whispered into his ear, "Next year Jeffrey, you can go upstairs when you are 4."

Jeffrey turned around and said out loud in the middle of Mass, "And when I'm nine I can drink beer!"

Past Jeffrey Cuteness

Me (as I'm cutting a muffin in half):  Jeffrey, you need to share. This muffin is for Grace and Jeffrey.

Jeffrey:  Nooooooo! Dis muffin is for ME and MYSELF!

**************

Jeffrey, screaming "Save me Mom!!!" and trying to climb over the breakfast table to me as dh approached to take him into a time out (sitting with him on the bed).

**************

Homeschooling fun for the day - Jeffrey grabbing 12yo's latin workbook and running away while shouting at her, "*I* learn Latin!!"

**************

Leah:  "How old are you?"
Jeffrey:  "I'm JEFFREY"
Me: Say, "I'm 2 years old"
Jeffrey, wailing: "Noooo! I'm JEFFREY!!"

**************
One from Leah: shrieking and screaming at her 6yo sister: "It's not a normal day, it's Valentine's Day! YOU SHOULD BE NICE TO PEOPLE!"

Favorite Jeffreyisms

I love how he says BEEbooRIES? BEEbooRIES? for any kind of small berry looking thing - blueberries (which is how it all started), strawberries, raspberries, grapes, beads...

I love how he adds MINE! to anything he is proud of. He did a forward roll the other night and jumped up so proud of himeself - you could just see it beaming out of him - and said, "I did it! Mine!"

I love how he adds 'Kay! to his requests when he really wants something, as if him saying "OK" makes it true - "Cookie? Cookie? Kay!" I know that when I have to say no to a 'Kay! request there's gonna be trouble.

I love how he signs I love you. Instead of putting up the traditional thumb, pointer, and pinky, he just folds down his pointer finger and leaves the rest up. He signs his "I love you" to Daddy every morning as he drives away, and he is so earnest and sincere.

How do babies KNOW this stuff?

Today Jeffrey (22 months) was pointing towards the wall and saying "Jesus! Jesus! Amen. Amen." and folding his little hands together. I finally realized he was pointing to the corner of the mantel where I have a statue somewhat similar to the one above (I couldn't find an exact picture, I think mine's a collectible and not sold anymore). But like in the one above, there is nothing really "special" denoting that it's Jesus and the Blessed Virgin Mary.

I don't think I've ever pointed out that statue to him, or told him who it was, nor do I remember doing that with any similar statues. (I know, I know, it's time I start!) Yet, I guess I don't have to worry, because *he knows*. He told *me* that the Little Baby in His mother's arms was Jesus.

I remember Leah (now 4) doing similar things at this age, saying an ornate picture of a certain saint was "God," when I had never introduced her to such a concept. They just seem to have an innate sense of the sacred. If only I had half as much...
