Snippet from a conversation between me and the phlebotomist during my glucose tolerance test this morning (I had my toddler in the room with me, she was directing her speech to the toddler and had seen my other two girls with me):
Phlebotomist: So, you're going to be a big sister? You're such a little thing to be a big sister (...mental note here, she thinks my kids are "too close together"...) Well, is it going to be another girl or did Mommy get lucky and it's going to be a boy this time..."
Me: (proudly, with a smile) It's another girl.
Phlebotomist: Oh, no... *insert her diatribe on four girls here*
Did I get lucky?
My first thought was a joking, "Well OBVIOUSLY I 'got lucky' or I wouldn't be pg" LOL
Did I get lucky...
I conceived and kept this baby when I've lost four others early on and have had trouble conceiving at all. I have many friends who are never this lucky and it breaks their hearts just to be with me.
Did I get lucky...
According to our ultrasound (I've refused other testing) this baby appears to be in perfect shape, healthy and strong. She greets me daily and nightly with her kicks. She is a miracle and *I* get to take part in it.
Did I get lucky...
My oldest, a girl, is a daily inspiration to me in the way she handles her struggles. My second born, another girl, gave me her first "I love you Mommy" note today when I was sure I was losing her heart lately. My third born (good Heavens, another GIRL) keeps us in stitches on a daily basis with her smiles, dances, funny sayings, and antics.
Did I get lucky...
We have all the clothes we need already. (well, except all those we gave away the DAY we conceived this little one, lol...but those are easily gotten again). We have the toys and the dolls, the frilly dresses and the nail polish. We don't have to 'switch gears'. Lord willing, we get to see our daughters grow up to be beautiful young women. To go to a dance all gussied up. To walk them down the aisle to the love of their lives. To see them grow with child inside them, and take part in the miracle all over again...
Did I get lucky??
What a silly, silly question.
