DD (8) is enjoying her first season of softball. New to all of us! Her best friend is on her team, so I think that has more to do with it than any love of the sport. ;-) Same DD has her First Holy Communion in 3 weeks. Exciting! We are very behind on a First Communion Notebook though. I have a feeling we will do it over the summer instead of having it finished by her FHC. I'll just present it more as a "reflections now that you are receiving Jesus" instead of "what did you learn this year to prepare".
Speaking of learning, we decided to buy Sonlight's Core 4 AND the SL language arts. Talking to dh and the girls, reflecting on our needs - those brought me close to buying it. But actually, it was sitting in church 50 feet from the Tabernacle, leafing through the catalog while waiting for DD to finish a meeting. It wasn't just a mindless catalog perusal, it was more of a prayer - Lord, is THIS it? Here it is, what should I do? I felt such a HUGE sense of peace and joy about it while there. THAT was what made me push the "purchase" button last night. (Well, actually, I was going to try to find it used - dh convinced me to just buy it. But I would have "bought" it either way. You know what I mean, LOL).
I'm trying to institute a little more structure into our mornings, also, and we are all responding well to it. Something as simple as having the older girls "at the table" instead of lounging on the floor/couch/wherever for school time is making a big difference. After a brief grumble, they are happy and productive, and typically have the whole afternooon FREE without any thought of stuff hanging over our heads. Possibly they are excited at the prospect of getting new books soon. We'll school on and off through the hot summer because we took mucho tiempo off when I was pg with Jeffrey and right after. I wish I had time to get into a better post about this - but we never felt this sense of peace when unschooling. I know it can work well with other families, I just don't think it's for us. At least not in a traditional sense.
Well, I was going to blab on about other stuff, but my time is up...got to go make dinner so my softball player doesn't starve out on the field! :)
Wait - I'll just say one more thing because I don't get to talk about Jeffrey much - he got his first tooth yesterday!! He is getting big so fast! Please pray for him tomorrow, he has a doctor appointment and will be getting his first (delayed) immunizations. My oldest had a pretty bad reaction to her first shots (which they don't give anymore - it was the DTP instead of the DTaP that they do now) so I am always nervous with this series. Pray for me and the doctor that we can come to an educated and respectful agreement as to what shots he should have tomorrow (I'm waffling on what to do depending on what they have available as far as the "mixed" shots go or whether they could possibly order something for us...)
Anyway, *now* I'm done. TIA for the prayers.
