School work? What is this "school work"...

LOL, it's been so long, I hardly recognized it.

After a morning spent downtown at the hospital to get my nose checked out (all seems fine, BTW, since I have been told to put NOTHING on it, I now have nothing to react to) we had a small lunch and got down to the business of enjoying some new homeschooling activities!

First up was our new weather unit. We chatted about weather, kinds we like and kinds we don't, what types are exciting, etc. We recalled the time when Rose was 5 or 6 years old, and we were all driving in such a torrential downpour that dh could hardly see the road. Rose wanted us to "do something" about it, so we suggested she pray. The moment the heartfelt little prayer of "God, PLEASE stop this rain!" escaped her lips, the downpour stopped, dry. Just like that! Our Savior calms the storms indeed!

They each wrote a little weather poem according to a template in our activity book:
weather word
compliment that thing
ask it a question
give it some advice

Here is Rose's:

Thunderstorm
You are so bright.
Why are you so loud?
If I were you,
I would quiet down.

and Skye's:

Rainbow
You are so colorful.
Why don't you have a pot of gold at the end?
If I were you,
I'd watch out for leprechauns.

Art was next. Amidst cheers, I finally brought out the craft materials I had squirreled away for months! We made weather fairies from felt, beads, chenille stems and funky yarn. They were supposed to be gnomes, but the girls wanted fairies, so fairies they are! They kind of look like a mix to me.

Clockwise from the top: Our snow fairy, rainbow fairy, cloud/rain fairy, sunny day fairy, and an extra made by my 4yo that she hasn't named yet. :) I think she wanted to have a sunny day fairy too.

A close up of the rainbow fairy:

This is the gloomy weather fairy, LOL. Gray hair and dark clothes.

The sunny day fairy. Notice the bright clothes and the vest she can wear when it is sunny but cold.

This is Skye's snow fairy. The tuille is supposed to look like ice crystals.

And get this. We even DID MATH. Math went quickly and well because we did the fun stuff first, and the girls had their fill of art, science, and my attention.

Tomorrow we start learning about temparature. Wonder if there is a SubZero fairy lurking in someone's imagination. :)
