February highs and lows
Life to the fullest
February brings a mad conglomeration of celebrations - the ups and downs of real life. Jane will turn 5 mid-month. She is our Joy Child, conceived after a fervent novena to St. Philomena following two miscarriages. The memories of her birth are made all the more joyful when tinged with the sadness around the edges - my FIL passed away five days later, and my husband left to be with his family. Jane and I bonded strongly in our lonliness and grief. My birthday is in the midst of all that, the memorial of my birth always a reminder of both what I've gained (an adoptive family, a blessed life) and lost (my roots, my history, my genetics, my birth family). Mardi Gras preceeds the dryness of Lent (so early this year, I'm not ready!), but it's the Lent that brings us, with gnawing hunger, closer to our Savior.
