Happy Summer!

I can't believe June is 3/4 over and summer has begun! It seems like just yesterday we were celebrating Jane's 5th birthday (that was February, lol).

I've been told I'm not blogging enough. ;-). I've been on several blogging tracts lately - either I have ideas in my head and no time to put them down, or I have ideas I try to put into words and it all comes out sounding stupid so I delete it, or I just don't have any ideas! I think today would be a little of all three but I know how some people like to see a little something -- anything -- from the bloggers they visit. So here's your "something/anything."

And wouldn't you know it, as soon as I finished that sentence, my mind went totally blank! :-P Hmmmm...

In "I'm a daring locavore" news, I tried swiss chard from the farm stand for the first time last night. I used it instead of kale to make "kale chips" or in this case, chard chips. But that doesn't sound as appetizing now, does it? Both the name and the fact that I said "chips" did get my picky 3yo to try some, though! So it was a winner in my book. All the kids had some, and all had the same reaction: a little bitter, not exactly what they expected, but edible. I agree. I had another huge leaf in a green smoothie this morning and now I'm not sure how to use it all before it gets too old. Just FYI I read that swiss chard is high in oxalic acid (which binds with calcium to form an insoluble salt) so it's not good to have TOO often in a smoothie, or an entire smootie made out of it. I think I'll buy kale next time if they have any. Our garden isn't producing anything right now - I got totally and completely spoiled just walking into the backyard for my salad. It's an emotional thing to have to go back to the farm stand or supermarket now.

Well, I just wrote and deleted a whole bunch of meaningless drivel. Best to stop now. See why it's so hard to blog?
