Notes

"Note" that I don't have a catchy title for this, LOL. It's not exactly a daybook, not a nature journal, not sure what it is. :) If someone can come up with a great title, I'd love to hear it, because I'd like to do this more often, and I must have a catchy title like all the other bloggers. :-P

Things I learned today:

-How to properly wash and store lettuce

-Be careful opening the lid of the salad spinner if it's still turning like mad. ;-)

-That it's always nice to offer a deliveryman a cool drink on a hot day. The man at our door today said I was the first of the day, and his shift was almost over. How many times have I been the one too shy to offer, so he went thirsty? He did say he had something in his truck today, but he was touched at my offer.

- My son can put him self back to sleep (at least this once!) if I let him fuss a bit, if it is way too early for him to be waking from his nap.

- Plums are delicious right now!

Today's harvest:

-six carrots with some sort of "black carrot disease" :(
- 7 cherry tomatoes

New at the feeder this week:

-brown headed cowbirds
-starlings
-a rare blue jay sighting
- new to the garden yesterday was a cardinal. I hope they eat bugs and not tomatoes. :)

Today I am finally admitting out loud:

I am an emotional eater. Every showdown with my willful toddler earns me an oreo (or 4). I can go through a bag at an alarming rate.

Thoughts and plans:

-I'm envying Angela's broccoli harvest and wondering if I can make it a fall crop here after the tomatoes die down. Maybe some peas, lettuce, and broccoli for a fall harvest? I'd *love* to overwinter something, but don't know how or what yet.

-Day 1 of Back To School went well and it's partially because I'm looking at what we DID get done and not what we DIDN'T. Go me.

-How funny I think the slogan "I make milk, what's YOUR superpower?" is.

Today's accomplishments:

-a few random hours of school
-putting away delivered food (we splurge on this when we have a free delivery coupon and one or more of us has been sick)
-two loads of laundry
-homeschooling review of a years work for another family in my homeschooling umbrella group
-washed and stored a weeks worth of lettuce. We'll see if this works!
-and so much more, of course, I'm a mom of 5! :)

What's for dinner:
-My own version of Shepherd's pie, kind of the quick, low budget version, LOL. Brown ground turkey with spices, layer on bottom of deep casserole dish with canned green beans and mashed potatoes on top (instant version today), bake in 350 oven 'til heated through.
-a big salad: romaine and green leaf lettuce with carrots and celery, and stuffing cubes for crutons. I use what I've got around here! :)
