Jen (from Conversion Diary and Jennifer's Favorite Links), linked to an article: Meet Wilma: The Face of Neanderthal Woman Revealed for the First Time. "Wilma" is the representation of a neanderthal woman for an October 2008 article in National Geographic, based on a few bones and DNA found.
Now before I go on my little rant, I will admit to you that I am a full blown Creationist (I believe God created the heavens and the earth from nothing), yet I am still undecided about whether I believe in a young earth or an old earth. I truly believe there is evidence both ways.
So I look at "Wilma" (go look at the article linked above to get a peak at her), and my first thought was, "Wow, they are making her look a lot more modern than I expected, more normal." I was expecting a full-on cavewoman look.
Then the young earth creationist side in me started looking more closely. Why is she so dirty? Even dogs, and cats, and apes clean and groom themselves. Why would man be any less? And what is with that frown? Why a grumpy ol' woman? If she has "evolved" enough (which I don't necessarily believe happened but just for the sake of argument, hmmm??) to have emotions like humans, I'm betting she wasn't ALWAYS frowning/mean/scary looking.
I'm tired of scientists of all kinds taking a tiny bit of evidence, making lots of guesses, and creating a "truth" for the common man.
OK, so maybe I'm just a grumpy ol' pessimistic ignorant romantic former biology major, LOL. I think Wilma and I would make good friends.
